We want our best friend

to listen to us

when we unravel the ramblings of our racing mind.

To be that safe space for us

when we let our guard down

for a non-judgmental listener sincerely wanting to understand.

We want our best friend

to hold us

when we unveil the needs and dreams of our longing heart.

To be that nurturing space for us

when we let them see the depths of our soul

that we barely dare to show ourselves.

We want our best friend

to sit with us

when we feel hurt.

And give us the room and space

to vent and cry and be unreasonably judgmental and harsh

without telling us we’re overreacting.

We want our best friend

to hear us out

when we’re angry and mad.

To help us figure out

why we’re so upset

without telling us we shouldn’t really be.

We want our best friend

to understand

when we feel lost.

And just sit with us

as we’re scrambling

to find our way back to ourselves.

We want our best friend

to give us the room and space

to do our thing.

Without crushing our feeble baby steps

under the weight of

what others might think.

We want our best friend

to gives us the freedom

to chase our dream.

To assure us they’ll be there for us

through the ups and downs

even when they are skeptical about the dream.

We want our best friend

to let us decide

what we’re gonna do

after they’ve been sharing their genuine concerns,

the risks and hurdles they see along the way,

without imposing their views on us.

We want our best friend

to encourage us

when we do something scary and new we really truly wanna do.

To cheer us on

even when they’re not sure

of what the result will be.

We want our best friend

to comfort us

when we fail.

To pick us up

when we fall.

And love us just the same.

So, tell me,

are you

being

that best friend

for

yourself?

    While reading this beautiful text,
I was thinking “yep, I have a best friend like that”.
    (no…wasn’t talking about myself) :) :)
Very good question at the end … something to think about!!
