Allow yourself to fail.

Allow yourself to not know something.

Allow yourself to do it wrong.

Allow yourself to fall back into an old habit.

Because each time you do,

you hand yourself the key to unlock the leaden door

of your perfection-pressured mind

and let the freedom and creativity in

that will make you succeed,

learn something,

do it right, pick up your new habit again,

in a life that is soul-filling to you.

Allow yourself to make a bad impression.

Allow yourself to say something wrong.

Allow yourself to have them not understand.

Allow yourself to alienate them.

Because each time you do,

you hand yourself the key to unlock the leaden door

of your people-pleasing mind

and let the freedom and confidence in

that will make you mesmerizingly attractive,

say something mindblowing,

click and genuinely connect

with the people that are soul-filling to you.

Allow yourself to feel unhappy.

Allow yourself to feel insecure.

Allow yourself to feel lost.

Allow yourself to feel alone.

Because each time you do,

you hand yourself the key to unlock the leaden door

of your “must find blissful happy”-pressured mind

and let the freedom and wisdom in

that will make you find the path to

your fulfilled, your grounded knowing that you’ve got what it takes,

your thing, your people,

in a life that is as you as you can be.

This poem was inspired by the gorgeous words from Dr Seuss “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
